Village Formation

The Village

Hanami Hope stems from a part of our law practice that helps seniors deal with loss of capacity and increasing fragility. Because of our unique position, we have learned about the California social service networks and ways to use existing social networks to help our community age well. We aim to increase awareness about these alternate solutions of care for our seniors to help connect people with resources, programs, organizations, and each other.

We have seen during the pandemic how the loss of interactions has tilted us all a little bit off balance.

Building villages and crossing bridges

In an ideal world, people-oriented villages allow for individual expression and enable members to flourish through healthy interactions and mutual interdependence. Particularly in our Asian American community, the close relationships that we form with one another and come to depend on are central to daily life. Through these relationships, we share and receive news, resources, aid, and love. For many communities of color, the tight-knit “villages” that we build for ourselves become family. As we age, these interconnections become even more important to maintain our mental and physical health.
