What is Seigaiha?

“Seigaiha” translates to “Blue Ocean Waves” and is a traditional Japanese pattern comprised of layered, concentric waves. It represents peace and resilience, especially during times of turbulence.

2026 Seigaiha Summer Series

  • Our opening gathering invites you into a space of powerful storytelling and shared reflection with guest speakers Russell Jeung and Satsuki Ina. Together, we’ll explore what it means to navigate exile, identity, and belonging across generations. Through conversation, story, and a shared meal, we begin building a community rooted in listening, honesty, and connection.

  • Everyone has a story of being helped or helping someone else. This gathering centers those moments and the ways care shapes our lives and communities. We’ll also hear from local advocates and Bay Area Legal interns working on public benefits access, connecting personal stories with real-world impact.

  • What does it look like to rebuild something broken and find beauty in the process? Through storytelling and hands-on creative practices like kintsugi and furoshiki, we’ll explore healing, hope, and the ways people create meaning from challenge and change.

  • This gathering highlights the stories that shape us: family memories, lived experiences, and moments of perseverance that continue to inspire us today. Together, we’ll share and honor the people and stories that have carried us forward.

  • We close the series by coming together to reflect on everything we’ve shared and learned. With the launch of our community storytelling podcast, we’ll celebrate the voices, relationships, and moments of connection that made this journey possible and express gratitude for it all.
